Japanese Taisho Silk Kasuri Padded Jacket
Offered here is a Japanese garment that was made during the first two decades of the 20th century (Taisho era) to be worn by a woman under a kimono during the winter to add a layer of warmth...The outer fabric of the garment is a beautiful silk, with a kasuri (ikat) pattern in white, two shades of light blue, on a dark blue ground. The lining of the garment is an indigo-dyed blue cotton. Between the outer and inner layer is a thin lining, probably cotton or floss silk. The collar is made of black silk...It measures 40 inches in length and is 14 inches across the shoulder...The condition of the silk kasuri fabric is good, with no holes or tears. The black silk collar does show signs of wear along the neck line. The inner blue cotton lining has faded unevenly overall and has a few old stains.
