Japanese 19/20th C. KASURI YOGI
Offered here is a unusual Japanese Yogi (sleeping futon) made of kasuri (ikat) fabric. The pattern is laid out on a grid with brown grid lines; inside the grid alternate warp/weft-kasuri patterns of three vertical stripes and weft-pattern samurai helmets. The kasuri fabric was probably made in/or near Izumo (west central Honshu) during the late 19th or early 20th century. The condition is perfect. It is, of course, hand-stitched together with black thread. The cotton stuffing (wata) has been removed, as has the lining. It measures 56 inches in height and 49 1/2 inches in width across the shoulders.
