DESCRIPTION: Ratafia glasses are a relative rarity: making up only 1% of opaque twists. The drawn trumpet bowl of this example is the more unusual form in ratafia glasses, the commoner form being a pointed round funnel bowl. Here we have a particularly fine example of ratafia glass with the bowl being wheel engraved with a floral motif and having wrythen flute moulding to lower two thirds. Supporting the bowl is a double series opaque twist stem comprised of an inner pair of spiral tapes surrounded by a 15 ply spiral tape sitting on a large conical foot with broken pontil mark. DIMENSIONS: The glass stands 6.9 inches tall with a bowl diameter of 1.5 inches and a foot diameter of 3 inches. CONDITION: This glass is in superb condition with no chips, cracks, bloom or scratches and shows no evidence of restoration. The bowl rim has a shear mark and there are normal signs of wear to the bearing surface of the foot.
