DESCRIPTION:
A rare and most elegant example of a mixed twist wine flute with trumpet bowl above a mixed twist stem composed of a central spiral white enamel gauze surrounded by a pair of mercury air spirals standing on a plain conical foot with broken pontil mark. According to Barrington Haynes mixed twists and coloured twists, between them, make up only 2½% of eighteenth century glasses and that of the two types of stem the mixed twist makes up 44% of the group. In Churchill’s Glass Notes of 1950 this type of glass appears in the Mixed and Colour Twist group under Section 1 A subsection 10.ii (a) and would have cost you all of seven pounds ten shillings: the glass hasn’t changed but unfortunately during the intervening years the prices has gone up slightly. DIMENSIONS: Height – 7¼ inches; Bowl diameter – 2⅜ inches; Foot diameter – 2¾ inches. CONDITION: The glass is in faultless condition with light wear to the foot and the bowl rims. |
