Antique English Baluster Wine Glass c.1725
A robust baluster wine glass of lead metal with a waisted, heavy based bell bowl above a baluster stem composed of a medial triple annulated knop with tear extending down to a plain section and a ball basal knop all standing on a plain conical foot. This glass was made with particularly nice metal: it has a high lead content and subsequently has that lovely heavy and unctuous feel to it so admired of the best of early English lead glass. A similar, but less impressive, glass can be seen in Bickerton’s “Drinking Glasses” fig. 153 p.90.

Height 7 inches;
Bowl diameter 2¾ inches;
Foot diameter 2⅞ inches.

In good condition with a very fine scratch inside the bowl. The foot has a small, reassuring raised shear mark to the outer edge made during manufacture and also a nearly horizontal tooling mark, also to the outer edge of the foot. Expected degree of wear to the foot and bowl rims and no signs of restoration.
