This bronze constituted part of the rarely-used Hemhemet Crown of a lifesized statue of a pharaoh or Osiris. Above the ram's horn of Amon rises the elements of the basket-work crown of Upper Egypt and the Cobra of Lower Egypt. Details of all the surfaces are very clear, including sections of copper inlay, at one time probably gilded, on the snake's body. New Kingdom, Sixteenth to Fourteenth Centuries B.C. Excellent patinated condition, approximately 3-1/2 inches by two inches.

The finest Etruscan bronzes I have owned in 50 years of collecting, this extraordinarily pair of belt hooks are in the form of Lasa, the winged “angel” attendant of Turan, the Etruscan equivalent of Aphrodite, goddess of love, particularly appropriate for this time of year. Dressed in a full-length chiton, the goddess presses her right hand to her heart and raised her left in the age-old sign of testament. Ram’s heads are at her feet and another above her head, its tongue protruding to form th ...click for details

An unusual small (approximately 2-1/4 inches in diameter)Egyptian or Syrian glass bracelet -- or possibly a hair ornament -- this ribbed beauty is so fully oxidized that it shimmers like a peacock's tail. The opalescence is so complete that it is hard to realize that the original color was carnelian red! Dating from about 400 to 600 B.C., it will be a superb addition to a collector's cabinet.

The emblem of a Roman matron's social standing, the fibula was the circle pin of its day, and one to be handed down from mother to eldest daughter. In fact, one of the touching things to me is the sign of wear on the back of the piece. This bold example combines Roman solidarity with motifs associated with the Egyptian goddess Hathor. There is fine dark-green patina over all; the pin, almost always missing, has been skillfully replaced with a replica. Approximately 2-3/4 by 3 inches. Seco ...click for details

Impressive heavy bronze handle from a bucket or small cauldron, with a double-headed-snake bail and nicely shaped lugs. The bail is decorated with interlocked arcs and well-detailed upper edge. Traces of the iron rivets remain. Excellent condition and patina with deeply incised interlocked curves on the bail and fine definition on the snake ends. Full length approximately 10-1/2 inches; custom stand. Roman, late Fourth Century.
