This beautifully crafted lorgnette folds into a gold-mounted tortoise-shell case. The silver-gilt frames have French hallmarks that date the piece to the Nineteenth Century probably about 1880. Closed, it is approximately 3-5/8 inches long and 1-1/8 inches wide. The lenses are ground for reading.
Not a copy, but a clever assimulation of the style of a denarius of the Roman Republic is this the pendant of this German iron watch fob; even the metal replicates the patina of an antique. Third quarter of the Nineteenth Century. "Coin" is about an inch in diameter and the fob's over-all length 2-3/4 inches.
