Highly detailed and finely finished, these
heavily gilded tiebacks are excellent in detail and execution. They are heavy in construction and could even be used as door handles. The reticulated cage of laurels forming the central boss reveal the gilding below, each element detachable for the other for cleaning. French, early Twentieth Century. Approximately 4-3/4 inches in length, 2/12 inches in diameter.

Of superb quality and heavily gilded, this French table lamp is elaborately decorated with classical designs and motifs, including the swan, a reference to the Empress Josephine Bonaparte. Made in the middle part of the last century, it is superior to similar pieces coming out of France today. Height is 27 inches to the top of the finial. The handpainted tole shade is about 14 inches in diameter.

Purchased over fifty years ago at San Francisco’s taste emporium Gump’s, these massive lamps in the form of reticulated covered urns light up three ways: inside, above or the two in combination. The bodies have a pattern of prunus trees against bamboo leaves.
