Early Werner Scholz Nude

One can imagine the young Werner Scholz (1898-1982) being abraded by the instructor for painting the classroom instead of the nude model! This was before the artist lost his left arm in the First World War, a disaster that did not prevent him from becoming a prime figure in the German Post-Expressionist movement. Adjudged a "Decadent" by the Nazis in the 1930's, Scholz fled to Switzerland where his work flourished for the rest of his life. This early work, heavy-impasto oil on paper, is in excellent condition and is handsomely conservation mounted in a fine Louis XVI-style, burnish-gilt frame . Image approximately 17 inches by 13 inches, 22-1/4 inches by 18-1/2 inches framed.
