Satsuma Cup & Saucer with Processional by Shoko Takebe
Shoko Takebe was not a prolific artist and little is known about the history of his pieces. However, the quality of his work approaches many of the works by Yabu Meizan. Both the cup and the saucer are decorated with exquisitely detailed processional scenes and the center of the saucer shows beautiful butterflies. Also, the interior bottom of the saucer is decorated with butterflies. The condition is near mint and both pieces exhibit little, if any wear. The saucer measures 5.25" in diameter and the cup measures 2.25" x 3.5". This item dates about 1890.
