Important Achaemenid bronze lion head, ex Christie's.
Achaemenid lion head Persian- achaemenid, 5th- 4 th century BC. Material: hollow bronze. Dimensions: 16 cm high. Hollow-cast bronze lion’s head in the form of a snarling lion with ferociously bared jaws, his mane boldly and finely delineated. Provided of Oxford University metallographic test for authenticate the bronze. Provenance: private English collection. Previously, Japanese private collection, acquired in Christie’s during the 80’s. Previously acquired from Manouchehr Soleiman Aaron, London, 1960’s. Private English collection. Published at Christies Tokio 1980.
