This very nicely fired crusty style Bizen guinomi (sake cup) was made by Hosokawa Takahiro who is one of the very talented young potters working in Bizen today. His work is popular in Japan and very reasonably priced for the quality of the firing. It is 2 3/4” high and 2” in diameter. The artist name and seal are on the top of the original wood box; his mark is on the bottom of the sake cup. It is in excellent condition.

This very finely fired guinomi (sake cup) was made by Ikenishi Goh (b. 1961) who is one of the finest younger potters working in Bizen today. The style is a darker style of Bizen ware called Inbe (or Imbe), whereby an iron wash is applied to the surface of the guinomi before firing, giving the body a very dark color. This very finely shaped and fired Shigaraki style katakuchi (open topped sake pourer) was made by Furutani Kazuya (b.1976) who is the eldest son of the noted Shigaraki and Iga potter, Furutani Michio. Michio was noted for building over 30 kilns during his lifetime and was celebrated for being one of the potters who helped renew the popularity of the Shigaraki style. This very finely potted gourd shaped Seto ware tea jar has a very attractive glaze. It was made within the last 20-40 years and comes in a silk shifuku bag and wood and cardboard box. It is 3 ¼” high and 2 ¼” from the widest part. The lid is made of ivory and gold leaf underneath. This piece is much more attractive than most of the Seto wares offered. This nice, finely fired large guinomi (sake cup) was made by the late Isezaki Mitsuru (1934~2012), brother of the current Living National Treasure for Bizen ware and Okayama Prefectural Treasure, Isezaki Jun. The sake cup is 2 5/8” high and 2 ¾” from the widest part. He was well exhibited in Japan and was a recipient of the coveted Kaneshige Toyo Prize. The artist name and seal are on the side of the original wood box; his mark is on the bottom of the cup. It is in excellent condition.

This very nice Kuro (black) Bizen guinomi (sake cup) was from the last firing by master potter Masamune Moriyasu before his death a few years ago. He is also known as Satoru and Kengo. The sake cup is 1 ½” high and 3” wide from the widest part. As with the Nakamura family, he was a potter of traditional wares and was very highly thought of in Japan.
