This very finely shaped and fired Bizen Hidasuki style guinomi (sake cup) was made by third generation Bizen potter Koyama Shingo (b. 1964), son of Shingo Issou II. Though a younger potter, he has won numerous awards and is well exhibited in Japan. He studied under Kaneshige Sozan, the brother of Living National Treasure Kaneshige Toyo. The cup is 2 1/8” in diameter and 2 1/8” high. It is in perfect condition and comes with a signed box.

This is a very nicely fired and shaped sekki style (unglazed) stoneware yunomi (tea cup). It can also be used as a traveler's chawan. The tea cup which has blue and gray with orange highlights was made by the noted Japanese ceramist Mihara Ken (b. 1958). He is a past winner of the Tanabe Museum's "Modern Tea Forms Exhibition" and other prizes. This is a very fine example of the more conservative and traditional Raku chawan (tea bowl) which was made by the potter named Ichiraku. There is not much biographical information available on him. The chawan was named “Wa-Izumi” by Zen master Kanshu Roshi at the Daitoku Temple in Japan, the leading temple of the Rinzai Sect in Japan. This fine Matsu-Yuki guinomi with a free shape and flowing design was made by noted contemporary potter Kako Katsumi. Kako (b. 1965) came from a family of commercial potters from Kyoto, but decided at an early age to become an art potter. He is highly thought of by several Japanese ceramic magazines and has won the grand prize at the prestigious Tea Forms Exhibition in Japan. The sake cup is 2 3/4” high and 2 1/2” wide. It comes with a signed box and it is in excellent condition.

This very finely shaped and fired Iga guinomi (sake cup) was made by Furutani Kazuya (b. 1976) who is the eldest son of the noted Shigaraki and Iga potter Furutani Michio. Michio was noted for building over 30 kilns during his life time and was celebrated for being one of the potters who helped renew the popularity of the Shigaraki style. It is 2 1/8” high and 2 1/8” wide. It comes with a signed box and it is in excellent condition.

This Sekki (unglazed) style gray and blue guinomi (sake cup) was made by noted Japanese ceramist Mihara Ken (b. 1958). The guinomi has angular cut kodai (foot) and lustrous surface on the blue portion. Mihara Ken is winner of numerous prizes and is widely exhibited in Japan. His work is influenced by Japanese Yayoi and Sue ware. It is 1 ½” high and 2 ¾” wide. . It comes with a signed box and it is in excellent condition.
