This iron glazed vase was made by Robert Briscoe, a well known potter from the Duluth, Minnesota area. The vase which has an iron glazed body with ash glaze highlights shows Japanese influence. This large carved ivory beauty is a 1950’s product. It depicts a young lady (quite possibly an image of a fairy) holding a flower basket in one hand and a branch of peony blossoms in the other. There is a phoenix leaning on her left side. She is almost 14 ¾” high, 3 ¼” wide and 2 ¾” thick. It is in excellent condition.

The very well carved young beauty is a 1930’s product. She holds a fan in one hand and a small musical instrument in the other. It is 8 ¾” high (with base is 10 ½” high) 2 ½” wide and 2” thick. There is an old repair on her left hand. Aside from that, it is in great condition.

This is a fine Chinese style black sake cup with a fine silky black surface. Kako (b. 1965) came from a family of commercial potters from Kyoto, but decided at an early age to become an art potter. He is highly thought of by several Japanese ceramic magazines and has won the grand prize at the prestigious Tea Forms Exhibition in Japan. It comes with a signed box. It is 2 ½” high and 3 ¼” in diameter. It is in excellent condition.
