| This circular jade (nephrite) pendant (or plaque) is 2 ¾” in diameter and 3/16” thick. It is a late 19th century product. It is carved on both sides and depicts a young boy holding a court tablet “Hu.” The boy is riding on a dragon headed carp and is surrounded by lucky clouds. In Chinese culture, this is a very popular subject. For centuries, passing governmental examinations offered a life time of opportunities for a young man and his family. Hence, these were popular amulets for young men who were to sit for the examination for entry into the bureaucracy. It is in excellent condition. | ||
