Facon de venise (in the style of Venice) candlestick, is just over 13" (33.02 cm) tall, with a base of 5" (12.70 cm) diameter; unsigned. Extremely rare, and a quite unusual piece of 19th Century Venetain glass, positively identified as by the glass house of Salviati Dott. Antonio. While tazzas, bowls, goblets, vases, and small plates are usual finds in Venetian glass, serving platters are seldom seen. This diamond-quilted, pale, mottled green, heavily gold-included platter measures an amazing 14.25" (36.19 cm) diameter, and 1.50" (3.81 cm) tall, with a 6.50" (16.51 cm) diameter well, 3.75+" (9.52 cm) rim. This magnificent spherical ice glass vase was once a lamp; the abusive hole which accommodated the lamp rod has been superbly restored by a now deceased master craftsman. The repair is so well done that it is only detectable after one has been told of it. We also believe he did some smoothing to one of the handles, but the former owner was unaware of that. Both the beauty and the ...click for details
