Copyright 1896, Published in 1904, by Lee and Shepard Publishers, Boston. Written by "Mrs. Nicola De Rienzi Monachesi." "A MANUAL FOR CHINA PAINTERS;" Subtitle: "Being a practical and comprehensive treatise on the art of painting china and glass with mineral colors." CONDITION: Good, with a plastic cover over the off-white hard cover which we have not tried to remove; pulling away from the spine lower half of binding; occasional ink underlingings within the text; one small torn corner and one torn page (1-1/2" long tear) of which we are aware. LETTER OF COMMENDATION in French, translated to English, from A. Lacroix, Chemist, Chevalier of the Legion of Honor, Officer d'Academie, who presumably manufactured in Sevres, France, "vitrifiable colors" for china painting. 282 Pages, plus an INDEX, and four COLOR PLATES containing hand-affixed color paint samples. Many B&W illustrations throughout. The book is a wealth of information for "amateur" china and glass painting techniques of the day, and indeed, we surmise much of it is still relevant today. There is nothing left out of this book; the subject of "amateur" china painting is thoroughly and delightfully covered, even down to discussion of the origin of the word, "porcelain!" A real treat to read or thumb through, and doubtless a treasure to the owner. Surely a First Edition, although it does not so state. 5.25" x 7.25" x .75" thick (13.33 x 18.41 x 1.90 cm) . c. 1904. $6 US Shipping. |
