American modern brooch. Circa 1950. Marked Rebajes. Copper die-cast pin. "Strawberry Leaf" design. Excellent condition. Approximate dimensions are 2 1/2" x 1 3/4". Frank (Francisco) Rebajes (1907-1990)was a Modern artist and studio jeweler, who incorporated his artwork into a successful line of commercial jewelry. His whimsical creations frequently included plant, animal, and human forms, and were most often rendered in Cubist, Surrealist, and Biomorphic styles. Although Rebajes was known for his hand wrought, one-of-a-kind pieces, he also designed prototypes for production by other artisans in his workshop. These production pieces were made from die-stamped, pre-fabricated and cast elements. Hammer marks were often added to give the appearance of hand forging. |
