This is a very special, formal, antique Japanese kimono made for a young girl. It was made of a fine satin silk, and dyed a wonderful periwinkle blue ground color (the same blue as that used for Edo kosode; obtained from a natural dye). The butterfly and phoenix design (w/a tatewaku opposing line motif) was done with the rice paste resist yuzen technique, executed in a somewhat folk-art like manner (as in tsutsugaki rice past resist). Very charming! ...click for details

In excellent-very good condition. It has a very slight 2-inch pink-colored sta ...click for details

This is a miharu-goma horse toy, a traditional folk craft of Japan's Fukushima prefecture. The custom of giving these toys to children in this village (Miharu) dates back several hundred years. They were believed to be a talisman, to ensure that the child grew up healthy. This one is approximately 30-50 years old. In good condition. It is handpainted with traditional Japanese pigment paint, which uses soy milk as its binder, making the colors opaque. Made of a solid piece of soft wood (pa ...click for details
