This is a miharu-goma horse toy, a traditional folk craft of Japan's Fukushima prefecture. The custom of giving these toys to children in this village (Miharu) dates back several hundred years. They were believed to be a talisman, to ensure that the child grew up healthy. This one is approximately 30-50 years old. In good condition.
