This is a charming vintage child's cotton kimono from Japan. It has a kasuri (ikat) design of diamonds, done in variations of brown. The fabric for this kimono may have been made in Oshima--a village in the south of Japan (in Kagoshima Pref.). The distinctive brown kasuri fabric from Oshima Island is highly prized in Japan. This is an antique Japanese porcelain plate with a hanabishi (flower-lozenge)shape and a scalloped-rim. It has the characteristic green/black “fuku” stamp (on the bottom), which was used at the Kutani kilns in the 18th and 19th centuries. This large bamboo basket from Japan is made with an open weave, giving it a light, airy look. But, in fact, it is very sturdy. It is assymetrical, yet perfectly balanced. It has a warm, chocolate brown patina. Dates from the first half of the 20th century. Signed: Shouzan (or Shoushou) saku (made by Shouzan). In excellent condition. No breakage at all.
