This is a very special tea pot/five-cup set. Made of a smooth, brown stoneware clay (with iron oxide spots) and glazed on the inside of the pot and cups only--except for a simple decoration done on the outer surface of the pot and cups, with a quick brushstroke. Skillfully and artistically done throughout. Handle is made of wood and bamboo.

This large, cobalt blue-glazed porcelain lidded pot was made by Mitsuyuki (or Mitsusuke), a contemporary Seto potter. The box is inscribed with the name of the pot: "gosu senmon, rokkaku futamono" (Gosu ware, line-patterned hexagon-shaped covered box). When held in the hand and tapped on the side, it sounds like a fine, bronze bell! Lovely ring.
