| This exquisite jewelry box is made from the second rarest of the rosewoods, golden rosewood or Huanghuali wood. It was this wood that was so prized by the Emperors of the past and the highest of Mandarin classes. True Zitan (purple rosewood), was too small of diameter to make the larger pieces of furniture that were made from Huanghuali and Chicken Feather wood. Huanghuali wood is a type of beautifully grained richly-coloured rosewood much prized for centuries to the point that the tree is now supposed to be extinct in China. This Huanghuali wood box was handmade in Canton where the craft of making handmade furniture and fine wood accessories has been perfected over centuries. This is a box from approximate, 1950 era, and is in such pristine condition it appears to have never been used. There is one drawer that pulls out to reveal many separate compartments. The lid is hinged and opens to many compartments including a special tray that can be used to conceal your most prized jewelry treasures or other items. The box is finished to a high gloss smooth polish which complements the solid brass hardware, hasp, and handles. This is also quite a substantial box and measures 14" wide, 6" high, and 10" deep. | ||
