I think this holder, with its tight spring closure (see the photo of the hallmark) was meant to hold a lipstick or a perfume vial. Not needing either, a person could use it to hold what my mother called "Mad Money" - a rolled twenty dollar bill for emergency cab fare!
C. 1920, this lovely lady's shoe horn proves again that everyday objects can be beautiful as well as utilitarian. The design shows a ribbon and bow holding a cascade of forget-me-nots.
