A classic style of desk magnifier with good optics. The handle is stag horn; the repousse band at the join of the handle and the lens is hallmarked as English silver although so worn that I can read nothing clearly except the letters : H.H.
The band encircling the bottom of the handle is of a different repousse design and not marked as silver. The design is that of the Scottish thistle, three leaf clovers and roses.
Very sturdy construction without damages or repairs.
This is an estate purchase, so I can't tell you much of the history of the piece. I am dating the English silver to the late 19th century.
A very handsome design suitable for a man or a woman; home use or office. And so much nicer that always searching for that pair of glasses you just put down - somewhere.
