This pin appears to be a late arts and crafts piece. The acorn is solid cast and soldered to the oak leaf and stem; the leaf is hand cut. There is a rollover clasp that appears to be mid-century and manufactured; it is in excellent condition and very secure. The back is marked Hand Wrought Sterling, partially obscured by the acorn stem; there is an unidentified maker’s mark of what looks like an angular DG within a fish. The pin measures 3 ¼ inches long by 1 ½ inches wide. Gross weight: 14.9 gra ...click for details

$145

Formed as four oak leaves and three acorns, with a curled stem, it bears the mark of New York jewelry designer Nino Bisso. There is little information on Nino Bisso (1906-1988); internet sources peg his company’s production from the 1920s through the 1940s. The back of the pin bears two applied plaques with Bisso’s marks. It also bears the original rollover clasp. It measures 3 inches long by 2 1/8 inches wide. Weight: 20.9 grams

One of Mary Gage’s iconic forms, modeled as of hanging leaves, vines and berries. The work is both solid and serpentine, and bears the artist’s signature roughness in its construction. The pin exhibits its original rollover clasp in good working order. It measures 2 3/8 inches long x 2 1/8 inches wide. Gross weight: 18.4 grams

Handcrafted and decorated with a curling vine, the peas made of graduated malachite beads strung on a wire. The rollover clasp is secure, and the pin is well balanced when worn. It measures 2 ½ inches long by ¾ inches wide. It is conservatively dated, and could be older. The pin is marked sterling.

Press-formed as three copihues, the Chilean national flower, the pin has a reinforcing frame on the back and curling stems; it is marked ‘Plata 900’ to indicate silver content, and tests definitively for silver. It has a Scandinavian arts and crafts look. The back also exhibits the stamp ‘Chile’ as well as an older-style rollover clasp, which is very secure. The pin measures about 1 ½ inches by 1 1/8 inch. Weight: 4.3 grams

Set with chrysoprase cabochons of different heights. The screw backs look to have been added later, the solder obscuring marks on the back of the earrings, one of which may be sterling. The other looks like a maker’s mark. They have a Scandinavian feel, though they also could be American. The screw backs are marked sterling. The earrings could have started out life as something else, such as buttons or cuff links. Gross weight: 4 grams total

A nice late arts and crafts piece, consisting of an oval turquoise cabochon, heavily embedded with matrix, set in a sterling silver bezel mount. It is surrounded by an inset frame, with a closed back. The back is marked ‘Handwrought Sterling’; the ‘H’ is partially obscured by the vintage latched clasp, which is probably a replacement for the original C-clasp. It measures 1 inch long by ¾ inch wide.

The trapezoidal, hammered panel is decorated with applied silver wire and beads. A faceted smoky quartz sits securely within a modified bezel mounting. The stone shows no wear or scratching; the C-clasp on the back is well soldered and secure, as is the pin stem. An 800 is impressed into the back to indicate .800 silver. There are no other marks. The pin measures 2 ¾ inches long by 1 1/8 inches at its widest part. Gross weight: 19.5 grams
