18c Japanese Folk Pottery Tokkuri Oro
Yaki

8" tall, excellent condition. This rare pottery bottle is a pottery known as Oro-yaki, a little known kiln which operated for a brief time in the early 18th century. A Seto area pottery, it bears a strong resemblance to other regional folk potteries. Impressed with a figure of Daikoku, one of the seven lucky gods, in a similar manner to Bizen, but applied with a rich brown overglaze, and a few spots of lighter amber glazing. A rare find, even in Japan.
