Details: A rare and handsome example of a 17th century gilt Tibetan image of Vairocana one of the five transcendent Buddhas. This impressive image is probably central Tibetan, but is heavily influenced by earlier Western Tibetan images of Vairocana. The most obvious Western Tibetan influences are the tall crown, stiff circular scarf, the sturdy tight form and the prominent heavy ornaments. Details: A rare and very attractive example of an early Ayutthaya bronze gilt Buddha from Phitsanulok. Buddha is seated upon a high ornate base, in dhyanasana with his right hand in bhumisparsha mudra, his long petal like fingers touching the earth, while his left hand gracefully rests on his lap in dhyana mudra. He is wearing a plain clinging sanghati over his wonderfully full plump frame which along with the head shows strong Sukhothai influence in this piece. ...click for details

Details: A classical example of a 17th century Ayutthaya gilt bronze standing Buddha in Royal attire. The Buddha is standing erect with both palms held parallel to the side of his body, with his fingers extended in Abhayamudra. His is adorned with the crown, earrings, necklace, armlets and belt of a king. He is wearing his usual translucent monks robe, but with regal decorated edges.

The monk Phra Malai is seated in deep meditation, his face the image of contented, concentrated happiness and knowledge. Details: A superb and rare example of an East Indian bronze seated Buddha with silver inlaid eyes. I initially thought this piece to be of Himalayan origin, however on a recent research trip to the British Museum in London I noticed an identical, but larger piece. The image was listed as East Indian and came with the following quote: “Buddhist missionaries carried sculptures like this to Tibet, especially during the 11th and 12th centuries, where Indian bronzes were often painted.” This example ...click for details
