Details: A charming sandstone example of an 11th century torso of the Brahmin dwarf Vamana probably from Madhya Pradesh. He is adorned with multiple necklaces covering his ample chest where a srivatsa is carved in relief between his shapely pectoral muscles. His sacred Brahmin thread rests across his beautifully defined pot belly, which is hanging over his diaphanous dhoti decorated with a classically beaded apron.

Details: This is a very unusual and attractive example of a Southern Indian Gajalakshmi Lamp probably from Tamil Nadu. The backplate of the lamp depicts the goddess Lakshmi being hailed by two elephants. The reverse of the backplate carries the same image. When the wick for the oil is burning the backplate is lit up highlighting the goddess, which is seen as an act of merit making with the Goddess. (The wick is supported by the overhanging front lip).
