18th Century Ava Alabaster Head of Buddha
Details: This is a very attractive example of an Ava Burmese head of the Buddha Shakyamuni carved from alabaster. Buddha’s face has a wonderfully tranquil and contented meditative expression punctuated by a pair of beautiful smiling lips. He has a handsome aquiline nose, elegant high eyebrows and finely carved elongated earlobes. The top of his head is covered with buds of tightly curled hair and usnisha which is surmounted by a lotus bud. All together making for an unusually pretty and satisfying piece of Ava/Shan art.

Age: 18th Century.

Height: Including base 45 cm, without base 30 cm.
