Details: A wonderfully detailed example of a 16th century Dhyani Buddha Akshobya. The cosmic Buddha is seated in his customary depiction with his hands in bhumishparsha mudra, wearing a florally decorated close fitting robe across his broad, powerful and shapely frame, upright in vajraparyankasana on an extremely fine double lotus pedestal supporting a detailed vajra. This piece is an extremely fine quality casting with much of its original gilt and has some wonderful detail in the hands, feet, robe, and lotus base. Akshobhya is one of the five transcendent cosmic Buddhas in the Tibetan Pantheon. As one of the five, he helps in overcoming the affliction of anger, one of the most potent obstructions to enlightenment and a dangerous affliction to human beings. He represents the transformation of anger into absolute perfection wisdom. Akshobhya is also the parent Buddha of such important tantric manifestations as Hevajra. Age: 16th Century. Height: 18 cm. Remarks: As can be seen in the above photos there is some minor restoration to the back of the base. |
