This rare stoneware bowl was made during the 14th Century. A white slip has been applied to the stoneware body and the underglaze design painted on using a low-grade cobalt resulting in bluish-brown colour. The transparent glaze has a greenish tint to it. This blue & white porcelain dish was made over 500 years ago toward the end of the 15th century and was recovered from the Hoi An wreck and sold as part of the Hoi An Hoard sale at Butterfields, San Francisco October 2000. It has a crackled glaze and the base has been coated in a dark brown wash, often seen on Vietnamese ceramics of this period.
