Chinese Tang Dynasty Glazed Groom with TL Test
Chinese Tang Dynasty Glazed Pottery Groom Figure with Oxford TL Test

This impressive pottery figure of a groom was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). It is made from a creamy-white pottery and coated in a finely-crackled chestnut glaze. It represents a foreign groom. Note the clothing and the hairstyle. The head and face have been "cold painted" in black and pink pigments. He stands in an animated pose, upper body slightly to the left with arms raised and fists clenched. Note also the open-mouth facial expression!

A good size with a height of 38 cm (15 inches). The left arm has been broken and re-stuck above the elbow and the figure broken and re-stuck just below the waist. The repairs have been performed to a professional standard. This really is an impressive figure in very good condition.

We have had this figure tested by Oxford Authentications, the only testers of ancient pottery accepted by all major dealers, auction houses and museums worldwide, and the Thermoluminescence Analysis Report that will accompany this item is shown; this confirms the date of manufacture as "between 900 and 1,500 years ago".
