Fine Chinese Tang Dynasty Horse & Female Rider with Oxford TL Test
This superb pottery model of horse and rider was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). It is made from a cream coloured pottery that is more highly-fired and, therefore, more durable than many of the more "common" buff coloured Tang pottery horses. It has been "cold painted" in various coloured pigments. Note the detail, especially to the horse's head and the rider's hairstyle. Height 32.5 cm. Although there are traces of repaired breaks to the fragile legs (not at all obvious but visible to the experienced eye), there is no other sign of repair, as is confirmed by looking inside the hollow body. A fine example in outstanding condition. This item includes the Oxford Thermoluminescence Analysis Report, confirming the date of manufacture "between 900 and 1500 years ago". This item would make a good pair with item M5922, both of which were reported to have been recovered from the same excavation (see our last photo for information only). *** TO ORDER THIS ITEM PLEASE EMAIL US QUOTING OUR STOCK NUMBER (see above) - WE SHALL THEN EMAIL YOU BACK WITH POSTAGE COSTS AND PAYMENT INSTRUCTIONS *** *** FOR FULL DETAILS OF OUR GUARANTEE AND PAYMENT OPTIONS, PLEASE CLICK ON "Buying from us - All you need to know" ON OUR HOME PAGE *** |
