Rarely offered for sale, this large and impressive blue & white covered vessel was made during the 14th century, most likely by the kilns at Yuxi in Yunnan province. Around the shoulder, boldly painted in underglaze cobalt blue of is a pattern featuring three fish. Below are floral, lotus leaf and scrolling patterns. The colour of the glaze varies slightly in places, this caused during manufacture. The inner surface is unglazed (apart from glaze splashes in places).

This vessel has been tested by Oxford Authentications, the only testers of ancient pottery accepted by all major dealers, auction houses and museums worldwide, and the Thermoluminescence Analysis Report that will accompany this item is shown with our pictures below; this confirms the date of manufacture as "between 500 and 800 years ago".

This is a large jar with a height of 38 cm (15 inches) and a diameter of 30 cm (12 inches). The only repair is to a small hole at the centre of the base that has been filled (the other two holes are where the TL test samples were taken and can easily be filled in); a lovely example in fine condition.
