This fine and attractive pottery horse and rider was made some 2,000 years ago during the Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 220). It has been "cold painted" in red, pink, white and black pigments. Note especially the detail of the rider's clothing. 

Height 27.5 cm. In view of its great age and fragility it is reasonable to assume that there is some degree of professional repair or restoration. A lovely example in fine condition as we hope our photos below demonstrate.

As with many of our finer items, we have had this item tested by Oxford Authentications, the ONLY testers of ancient pottery accepted by ALL major dealers, auction houses and museums worldwide, and the Thermoluminescence Analysis Report that will accompany this item is shown with our pictures; this confirms the date of manufacture as "between 1500 and 2400 years ago".
