Fine Japanese Woodblock Print Sekka Momoyogusa 1910
A Good Japanese Woodblock Print by Kamisaka Sekka (1866-1942) from Momoyogusa 1909/1910 17 1/2 x 11 3/4 ins. (44.5 x 29.9 cms) Sekka created in 1909/10 one of the greatest of Japanese block printed albums in three volumes, Momoyogusa, variously translated as "World of Things" or "Flowers of 100 Worlds". The volumes were in folding format so the surviving prints all have a vertical centrefold. It was published by the great Kyoto publishers, Unsodo, who published a reprint from the original blocks a few years ago. This stunning design shows a Kabuki actor in a Shibaraku role. The Shibaraku plays were short 50 minute interludes between the acts of main performances which feature this extraordinarily powerful visual kimono design. The print is in very good condition with no damage and no repairs. The ends of the centrefold are slightly "notched". There is metallic printing at the collar and on the sword fittings. Please note that this is an original printing NOT a facsimile or reprint.
