Rare Large Chinese Banpo Neolithic Amphora + TL Test
Very Rare Large Chinese Neolithic Pottery Amphora - Banpo
with Oxford TL test.

This exceptional pottery vessel was made over 6,000 years ago during the Banpo phase (c. 4800 - 4300 BC). This is a very rare form, similar to the often-published Banpo amphora with a pointed end, but with a flat bottom. It is quite heavily-potted. The upper two-thirds of the body is covered with fine cord impressions. whereas from the shoulder upwards the surface is decorated with criss-cross incised lines.

A large vessel with a height of 35 cm (13.75 inches). It is clear that the top has been broken off and re-stuck but there is no sign of repair to the body; an exceptional example of early Chinese Neolithic pottery in outstanding condition.

This item includes the Oxford Thermoluminescence Analysis Report, confirming the date of manufacture "between 4,700 and 7,200 years ago".
