A Fine Japanese or Ryukyuan Lacquer Panel. 19th. century 6 x 6 x 5/16 ins. (15.2 x 15.2 x 0.7 cms) This beautifully executed panel has a design of a bird perched on a vine with leaves and seed pods depicted in flat and raised lacquer. This is the same design as one of our other listed panels but executed in a different technique of "mitsuda" lacquer in which coloured lacquers are brushed onto the surface achieving more intense colours than on makie sprinkled lacquer. The style is very much that of the Ryukyu Islands the art of which is, as a consequence of their history, often a mixture of Chinese and Japanese influences. The Ryukyuan style was very popular in Japan and it is very difficult to tell them apart. The panel is in good condition, there are the expected minor bruises and "dings" to the surface and slight wear to the highlights. It dates from the latter part of the 19th. century. Please see our other listings of similar panels. *** TO ORDER THIS ITEM PLEASE EMAIL US QUOTING OUR STOCK NUMBER (see above) - WE SHALL THEN EMAIL YOU BACK WITH POSTAGE COSTS AND PAYMENT INSTRUCTIONS ***base *** FOR FULL DETAILS OF OUR GUARANTEE AND PAYMENT OPTIONS, PLEASE CLICK ON "Buying from us - All you need to know" ON OUR HOME PAGE *** |
