A Gaddang man’s small wooden hat (called “soklong”) from the Gaddang people of northern Luzon, Philippines, circa mid-20th century. The hat (about three inches in diameter and two inches in height) is carved from a solid block of "narra" hardwood. The top of the hat is decorated with snake skin and the side is lined with serrated metal band; around the bottom rim is a half-inch metal band. A beaded wooden comb ensemble from the Tiboli (possibly Bagobo) people of south central Mindanao, Philippines circa post 1950. The comb is made of hardwood with multi-colored beaded strands and multi-colored threads at the tips. At the top of the comb are chevron patterns also of multi-colored beads. This is a male Gaddang cloth pouch (locally called “sayay”) from the Gaddang people of northern Luzon, Philippines, circa mid 20th century. The pouch is made of red commercial cotton cloth, knotted at one end so as to form a pouch, and decorated with multi-colored beaded bands and tassels at two corners. A finely made mother-of-pearl neck-breast ornament (locally called “sipattal”) from the Isneg people of northern Luzon, Philippines, circa the second half of the 20th century. Nine butterfly-like carvings (each about 3 inches across and 1.75 inches high) from whole mother-of-pearl shells and four triangular patterns also of mother-of-pearls create the highlights of this ornament. This hat is made of woven rattan, decorated with the black plume feathers of a wild rooster ("labuyo"), and two wild boar’s tusks.
