These are circa late 19th or early 20th century male ivory (“gading”) ear discs/plugs (“pamarang”) from the Bagobo people of south central Mindanao, Philippines. In very good condition and quite shiny, each disc is about 2 inches in diameter and a half of an inch thick. There are nips on the knob and side of one disc. Two strands of fine brown beads, about 12 inches long, attach the two discs. A researcher writes that the “pamarang” is the most prized possession of wealthy Bagobo males.
