$6000/FIRM!

I have completely rethought what I said before I restored this table! This piece is almost certainly 18th century. If not, it is one of the best examples of a very early 19th century "centennial" pieces I have ever seen!Did I say that before?

This small, one drawer kang table is extremely rare. This piece is collectible and a good investment. It is 18th century. The size is 27x18x15high.It may have been used as part of an altar arrangement. It is not a true coffer. What would have been the coffer part, has been redesigned with a drawer. However, the drawer is original. The wood is Elm/Yumu.The fittings are original and made of hand forged iron. What is left of the lacquer is red and blue on the front and oxblood, on the sides. The top is natu ...click for details

While this simple stool my not be considered by most to be indicative of a "Period" antique, it is.The date on this little jewel is 1800, plus or minus. It is of mixed woods. The top is of burl wood.Originally. the stool was covered in lacquer, however, the lacquer has long since worn off.The stool has not been stripped, sanded,or scraped. As they used to say in Hong Kong,"a true Antique in the Raw".18x5x14

1736 to 1795...Qianlong...This red lacquer(cinnabar)box is very rare. The size is 34x22x22High.The front plates and handles are original.Originally, the entire box was covered with paintings. Whether they were similar to the painting on the side is unknown. This is one of the finest examples of a early box that we have seen.Another example of a similar style can be seen in the recent book called Pure Form.

We have had (and seen) many shrines. This example is one of the best. While it retains only some of the original lacquer, the cabinet has a "wabi-sabi" charm. The shrine is made of various soft woods and is 18th century. The size is 37x23x36high.

Every piece has a good story. This one is no exception. When we first went to Hong Kong,in the 80's,we were on our way to the Philippines.Carolyn and I would lay over for a day or two to get over jet lag.We would roam up and down Wyndham St for hours, checking out all of the shops. We weren't really buying for our shop;but we did get some pieces for ourselves. We still have some of these pieces, but others we have parted with. Not that this has much to do with this gate bench, but in some ways ...click for details
