Tall, facetted vase with a left-turning twist by Danish artist Aage Birck. It is decorated with a running, reddish-brown glaze with whitish salt spots in two sections. The vase has been done in a new technique developed by the artist in which he creates his pieces by building them out of connected clay slabs. Signed: Birck, 07 (2007). Unique. H 43 cm. An attractive and well-sculpted modern, bottle-shaped vase of Bizen-ware. The body of the vase tapers upward to end in a short neck w. a small mouth. The rounded sides are rendered in broad and roughly carved bands running anti-clockwise. The colour of the piece changes from redish brown over grey to a dark metallic brown w. minute specks of lighter coloured material. Artist’s mark in the bottom: Shibuta. Document for the piece. The body is covered in a delicately mottled and beautifully toned glaze that ranges from a light greyish green over a pale green to a deep sap green in slanted, left-turning bands.
