| A small but very rare ginger-jar shape, porcelain vase by famous Danish potter Gertrud VASEGAARD. The piece has been decorated all-over with brown-black splashes over the finest, light blue, crystalline glaze. Signed: GV (artist’s monogram) for B&G (Bing & Groendal, Denmark). Number: P. 939. A real collector’s piece. Probably made during the 1920s. H. 10 cm, D. 10 cm. Condition: Perfect. BIOGRAPHY: Gertrud VASEGAARD (1913–2007) is widely renowned for her life-long work with studio ceramics as well as her designed series of table ware. She worked for the B&G porcelain factory in Copenhagen for more than three decades before starting her own studio. Vasegaard’s pieces from her time with B&G reflect the development and excellence of Danish stoneware production and culminated in a number of large, powerfully sculpted vases in a late Danish Art Deco style. Undoubtedly inspired by Bernard Leach’s movement promoting folk ceramic styles. During the 1960s she changed direction and produced a range of unique pieces inspired by Oriental blue-and white porcelain. Especially the late Choson ware from Korea served as a cherished inspiration. | |||||||||
