A rare and unique vase in stoneware by Jørgen MOGENSEN

A rare and unique vase in stoneware by Jørgen MOGENSEN.* The body of the vase is divided into two sections, one broad and one narrow, and is decorated with a creamy, off-white glaze on brown together with irregular bands in underglaze blue. Signed JM (artist’s monogram). Design F381. Ca. 1970. H 15.5 cm, W 12.5 cm. Condition: Perfect. BIOGRAPHY: * Jørgen MOGENSEN (1927–). Ceramic maker and sculptor who started his professional career as a potter at Royal Copenhagen in 1949. During the 1950s he produced several series of modern stoneware for the factory. These series-produced wares are typical of the 1950s semi-abstract design and most of them are covered in a dull, brownish glaze. His more interesting work is from his own studio where he created a wealth of unique designs mainly during the mid- 1960s to early 1980s. His semi-abstract vases and monumental sculptures represent the zenith of his production.
