Shino yaki, modern tokkuri by Tsukamoto Haruhiko
A modern, tokkuri-shaped vase of heavily thrown Shino-ware w. thick white, partly covering, glazed over which are powerful, brown, iron red and gray splashes. The body with raised tapering bands that turn clock-wise. The piece was made by artist Tsukamoto Haruhiko (b. 1959).* Fully signed kiri-box w. artist’s seal and signature. H 15.5 cm. Condition: Perfect. * Tsukamoto Haruhiko was born in Mino in 1959, and is now based in Gifu prefecture. Tsukamoto does not come from a traditional potter’s family, but became interested in the medium during his high school years. Since then he has worked diligently to become a master potter. His work, which covers both Mino as well as Shino styles, reflects a certain, more modern departure from the established tradition, without compromising the quality of its craft and design. Tsukamoto has participated in many exhibitions through-out Japan and is among the new, up-and-coming ceramic artists in the traditions of Mino and Shino.
