Leonard Wells Volk made a life mask of Abraham Lincoln from Lincoln's face as he sat in person for mask in 1860. Later Volk took the original casts to Rome to sculpture artisan Malpi Cari to have molds made. Upon returning to Chicago, Volk made only three plaster castings of the Lincoln Life Mask, giving two to his son Doglas Volk.
