TWO SEPARATE GRAY POTTERY, CHINESE HAN Dynasty Horse and Rider with a Oxford Thermoluminenscence Certificate tested in 2 places is consistent with the date (Western Jin Dynasty, 265-317 AD) purchased from Christies in Amsterdam, Holland. The rider is a "foreigner," with tunic and hat. This gray pottery piece has traces of pigment and slip. There is also a crack on one of the legs. Minor restorations. Braying Chinese Camel, pottery, sancai glaze, Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD) some restorations. This was purchased from Christies in NYC, and was from the E. Schloss Collection. It was exhibited at the Monterey Penisula Museum of Art @ La Mirada 08/21/94 and the Bowers Museum of Cultural Art in Santa Ana CA, 10/06/96-03/16/97. This example of Chinese Funerary Art is superior to many examples in the finest museums. 22 inches in height x 18 inches in width.

SOLD - from Christie's Beverly Hills,CA "Asian Works of Art" Sale, October 5, 2000, Lot #192.  

This Incense burner (censer) of squat proportions with a slightly everted rim and two stylized fish handles to the side is a grey buff stoneware with a blue-grey glaze, what the Chinese call "ge-yu." Kangxi period (1662-1722) This item was bought in Christie's "Asian Works of Art," auction, 10/5/2000 in L.A. Lot # 192, page 53. 5.75 inch diameter, or 14.6 cms. Condition report available on request.

This is a Japanese (faithfully and skillfully) executed reproduction of a Chinese Fukien 15th Century CENSER (filled with sand and used on a Buddhist alter to burn incense.) The soft cream colored crackle glaze is well applied and covers about 70-80% of the footrim. The color is actually more white-cream than the bluish tinge in the photo. Bottom is unglazed. The elongated body and neck covered with a glaze of sang-de-boeuf dripping with iridescent purple, thinning to a cream tone to the edges of the flaring rim.
