Jean Andre Rouquet (1701 – 1758)
Portrait of a gentleman, c. 1730. The portrait depicts the powdered and bewigged gentleman, wearing a yellow embroidered waist coat, and white stock, under a brown coat. Portrait set in 9K gold case, surrounded by foil-backed paste stones. Glazed reverse set with cream fabric. Oval, 6 cms. X 4 cms. (2 ¼ inches x 1 7/8 inches).
Excellent condition.

Continental School. Early 19th Century watercolor on ivory portrait of an officer. The officer, depicted in 1/2 pose, is depicted wear a blue coatee with red facings, silver epaulettes and aiguillete, white shoulder belt with silver belt plate, chemise and black stock. Beneath his right arm he carries a silver helmet decorated with a black feather. Gilt brass frame. Oval, 8 cms. X 6 1/2 cms. (3 1/4 inches X 2 1/2 inches). Excellent condition.

A very rare and unusual miniature, witch is attributed to Friedrich Ludwig Vieth von Goldenau (German), c. 1800. The water color on ivory portrait depicts a miniature painter, and is very possibly a self-portrait of von Goldenau. The artist, with brown hair and brown eyes, is wearing a bright yellow waist-coat, white chemise, and a loosely tied blue craval.
