Passage to Antiquity

$742.00

An Egyptian bracelet composed of six cylindrical and two spherical blue-green feldspar beads restrung with nine modern vermeil (24 kt gold over sterling silver) beads and a 24 kt clasp. The feldspar beads are dated to the Middle Kingdom, ca. 1995 - 1648 BC and are in excellent condition. Shipping is free and the bracelet measures 19.2 cm.

The feldspar beads were discovered in Egypt in the early 20th century and exported with license to Great Britain for inclusion in the Georges Moustaki collection. From there to a U.S. antiquities dealer and then back to a private UK collection.

Feldspar and other indigenous stones were used extensively in ancient Egypt for the creation of amulets, jewelry, inlays and various size vessels. Egyptian jewelers had an exceptionally trained eye for colors as is clearly shown in examples of their artwork.
