These egg cups were made by Poole in England circa 1925, during the art pottery era under the ownership of Carter, Stabler and Adams. The are hand-painted with identical motifs and were done by the same painter whose cipher is prominent on the bottoms. Both have been used, with light crazing in the interiors and a flake missing from the bottom rim of one. There were wax remnants in one cup so they have been used as candlesticks - but their original purpose was as egg cups. Measurements are about 1-3/4 inches in diameter and 1-5/8 inches in height. They are offered for sale as a pair.

This 4-1/2 inch tall vase could not be better: mint condition, immaculate interior and no color loss whatsoever. It was made in England circa 1935, designed by Clarice Cliff. Viscaria was her name for the blue/green colorway - the design was the same for Aurea and Rhodanthe, executed by a single painter. A drip treatment was used for the interior in a bright yellow. Cliff also designed the simple shape, horizontally ribbed to suggest coiled pottery, with the shape number 565s/s. The vase was all hand-painted and has the Clarice Cliff bizarre stamp.

$900.00

The strong colors on this biscuit barrel, or cookie jar, are remarkable with only a few scratches in the glaze on the top of the barrel and light oxidation of the outermost rim of blue glaze on the lid, and no other damage. This is one of Clarice Cliff's designs and shapes, number 333, designed and brought to market in England in 1932- 1933. Blue Chintz is one of her stylized designs, as though looking at a chintz ceramic pattern through a microscope that has enlarged each flower into a color field. The barrel has its original raffia handle, dyed dark blue and in very good condition. The barrel and lid measure about seven inches in height and the circumference of the jar is 19 inches.

$700.00

Bobbins is one of Clarice Cliff's abstracted or Picasso inspired motifs, in production from 1931 to 1933. This bowl is in a simple shape and has both Bizarre and Fantasque stamps, indicating it was made at the Newport pottery, bought out by Cliff's employer Wilkinson's, with the factory turned over to Cliff to accommodate her burgeoning workshop. The bowl was probably a Newport blank, not one of Cliff's own shapes, with the design applied in three stages by three painters: an outliner, an enameler and a bander. It shows signs of use in the honeyglaze interior and some tiny missing flecks in the design but there is no damage. The bowl measures 7-3/8 inches in diameter and 3-1/4 inches in height.

The dyed and woven wicker handle is original and in perfect condition. Made in England and marked for Newport pottery this jar dates from the 1930s.
